How to play Doodle Jump
Doodle Jump is an endless vertical climb. The Doodler bounces by itself the moment it touches a platform, so the only thing you control is where it lands next. Miss everything and you fall off the bottom of the screen, and the run ends there.
- Move: left and right arrow keys, or A and D. On a phone or tablet, tilt or drag.
- Shoot: tap upward or press space to fire straight up. Shooting does not slow the fall, so time it.
- Wrap around: leaving one side of the screen brings you back in on the other. It is faster than turning around, and it is how good runs are steered.
The platforms are not all the same. Green ones are safe and hold forever. Blue ones slide sideways, so you have to lead them. Brown ones break the moment you touch them and drop you. White ones vanish after a single bounce. Read the colour before you commit to the jump.
Springs, trampolines, propeller hats and jetpacks are scattered up the page. They are the only way to skip a large gap, and a jetpack in the wrong place can throw you past a safe route into empty space, so grabbing every one of them is not automatically the right move.
Five habits that add height fast
- Look up, not down. Your eyes should sit near the top of the screen. By the time a platform is level with the Doodler it is already too late to steer onto it.
- Use the edges. Wrapping through the side of the screen is a free lane change. Players who never use it lose runs to platforms two pixels out of reach.
- Treat brown platforms as bait. They break on contact. If a brown one is the only thing under you, aim past it, not at it.
- Shoot early. Monsters and UFOs block a lane completely. Clear them while they are still high above you, not when you are about to land on their heads.
- Slow down at the top of a boost. When a propeller or jetpack runs out you drop with no control for a moment. Line up your landing before the boost ends, not after.
About the game
Doodle Jump was created by Lima Sky and released on mobile in 2009, where its hand-drawn look on squared paper made it one of the defining games of the early App Store. The version on this page is a browser build you can start in one click; the catalogue below it is a wider collection of free browser games kept on the same site, so there is somewhere to go when a run finally ends.
Doodle Jump questions people actually ask
Is it free, and do I need to download anything?
Free, and nothing to download. The game runs inside the page in your browser. There is no account, no launcher and no app to install.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. On a touch device you steer by tilting or by dragging your thumb across the screen. A phone held in portrait matches the shape of the game better than a laptop does.
How do I get a higher score?
Height is score, so anything that keeps you climbing without a broken jump helps. In practice the two biggest gains are watching the top of the screen instead of the Doodler, and using the wrap-around edges to reach platforms that look out of range.
What do the different platform colours mean?
Green holds forever, blue slides from side to side, brown breaks the moment you land on it, and white disappears after one bounce. Any platform can also carry a spring, a trampoline, a propeller hat or a jetpack.
Can I play it at school or at work?
It loads as an ordinary web page, so it works anywhere a normal site does. If a network blocks the page itself there is nothing this site can do about that - that filtering happens before the request ever reaches us.
Is this the original game?
No. The original Doodle Jump is Lima Sky's mobile release. This is a browser build of the same idea, put here so you can play a round without installing anything.
