Bloons Tower Defense 4 is a tower defense game where the enemies are balloons. Colored bloons follow a fixed track across the map, and you stop them by placing monkeys beside the path. Each monkey pops bloons in its own way, and every pop earns cash you spend on more towers or on upgrades. If too many bloons slip off the far end, you lose lives, and when the lives are gone the round is over.

The series comes from Ninja Kiwi, and this fourth entry is a classic of the Flash era. A session is a loop of waiting, placing and upgrading. Early waves are slow and forgiving, so you can think about where a tower will see the most track. Later waves send faster, tougher bloons in bigger groups, and a weak layout falls apart quickly.

It is a different kind of page from the rest of Doodle Jump's catalogue. Most games here are about timing a jump or dodging something with your own reflexes. In this one you plan ahead and leave the real-time work to the towers you built.

How to play

This game is driven by the mouse, or by taps on a touch screen. The movement keys that suit the jumpers on this site do nothing here. Pick a map and a difficulty, then click a tower in the side panel and click an open spot on the map to place it. Click a placed tower to see its range, upgrade it, or sell it. Start the wave with the play button, and you can speed it up once you trust your defense.

Bloons come in layers. A red bloon pops in one hit, while tougher kinds release smaller bloons inside them when popped. That means one strong bloon turns into a crowd of weak ones, so towers that hit several targets at once are worth having.

Tips

• Place towers at bends and loops in the track. A tower covering several stretches of path gets more shots at each bloon.
• Upgrade a few good towers instead of spreading cash across many weak ones. Upgrades usually give more value per coin than another basic tower.
• Mix tower types. Some towers cannot hit certain kinds of bloon, so a single type of defense will eventually get stuck.
• Do not spend everything straight away. Keep a little cash in reserve for a surprise wave.
