Fireboy And Watergirl 4 is a two-character puzzle platformer set in a crystal-filled temple. You steer a fire elemental and a water elemental through a series of chambers, and both of them have to reach their own exit door before a level counts as finished. Nothing here is a race: the puzzles are about sequencing, so a level usually goes quicker once you stop sprinting and look at the whole room.

The twist that defines the series is that the two heroes are not interchangeable. Fireboy can wade through lava and Watergirl can swim through water, but each is destroyed by the other's element, and green goo is deadly to both. Every pool, lever and platform in a chamber is a small decision about who goes first and who has to wait.

How to play

Tips

• Before you move, find both exits and every hazard of the wrong colour. Knowing where the danger is makes the route obvious.
• A button usually has to stay pressed. Leave one character on it, or push a block onto it, while the other crosses.
• Gems sometimes sit on a risky detour. Take the safe route to the exit first, then replay the level for the extra pickups if you care.
• If you get stuck with one character cornered, restart the chamber rather than hunting for a trick. The levels are short, and restarts cost very little.
