Classic Minesweeper — Play Free Online

Puzzle & Brain

Classic Minesweeper is a free logic puzzle: clear the grid without hitting a mine. Plays in your browser, no download needed.

Classic Minesweeper is the old logic puzzle in its familiar form: a grid of covered squares, a handful of hidden mines, and one job — uncover every safe square without touching a mine. There is no timer pressure from enemies and nothing chasing you, which makes it a very different kind of session from the bouncing and climbing that Doodle Jump fans usually come here for.

What it shares with the headline game is the "one more try" pull. A board takes a minute or two, a mistake ends it instantly, and the next board is a single click away. It runs in the browser with nothing to install, so it fits the gaps in a day well.

How to play

Click a square to reveal it. A number tells you how many of the eight neighbouring squares hold a mine; a blank square means none do, and the game opens the surrounding area for you. Your first click is the opening move, so just pick somewhere near the middle and see what opens up.

From there it is deduction. If a revealed "1" touches exactly one covered square, that square is a mine, so flag it (right-click on a computer). If a number already has all its mines flagged, every other covered neighbour is safe to reveal. The page's control note mentions arrow keys and WASD, but for a game like this the mouse, or a finger tap on a phone, does the real work.

Tips

  • Start from the edges of any opened region and work outward; numbers along a border give the most certain information.
  • Look for the pattern of a "1" next to a "2" along a wall — comparing neighbouring numbers often reveals which square must hold the mine.
  • Flag only what you have proved. A wrong flag can lead you to reveal a neighbour you thought was safe.
  • When no safe move exists, pick the covered square that touches the fewest unresolved numbers rather than a random one.

If you like the thinking side of this, Fireboy and Watergirl is the closest relative here, since its levels are puzzles about order and cooperation. For something fast instead, Helix Jump and Bird Jumper trade logic for reflexes, and Bloons Tower Defense 2 sits in between with planning against a clock.

Minesweeper suits short, quiet sessions and one player at a time, and a mouse makes it noticeably easier than touch.
