Refuge Solitaire — Play Free Online

Puzzle & Brain

Refuge Solitaire is a two-deck patience game with 16 tableau piles and 8 foundations. Play it free in your browser with no download.

Refuge Solitaire is a two-deck patience game in the same family as Crescent Solitaire, set in a calm Alpine scene. All 104 cards are on the table from the first second — there is no draw pile to fall back on — so every hand plays out as a puzzle of sequencing rather than a game of luck. If you came to Doodle Jump for a fast, pick-up-and-play fix, this is the quiet end of the catalogue: a slower game you settle into for one full hand.

You win by clearing every card off the 16 outer tableau piles and into the 8 foundation piles in the middle. Four of those foundations build up by suit from Ace to King, and the other four build down by suit from King to Ace. The catch is that cards move one at a time, and a card can only land on another card of the same suit that sits one rank higher or lower. That sounds forgiving — and it is — but a single careless placement can strand a card you needed in a pile you can no longer reach.

How to play

Each of the 16 tableau piles is dealt six cards, but only the top card of a pile is in play until the cards above it move away. Click or tap a card, then drag it onto any other top card that matches its suit and sits one rank away. A 7 of hearts, for example, can land on a 6 or an 8 of hearts — and because a King wraps onto an Ace and an Ace onto a King, each suit forms a continuous loop rather than a straight ladder. You cannot move a stack of cards, only single cards.

To send a card to the foundation, double-click it. A card only flies there when its foundation is actually ready to take it, so double-clicking is also a safe way to test whether a card belongs. When a tableau pile empties, any single card can be placed there, which makes an empty pile the most useful space on the board — treat it like a spare hand.

Tips

  • Clear the shortest pile first. An empty tableau pile accepts any card, so it works as a temporary holding spot you can use to shuffle cards around without committing them to a foundation.
  • Keep the mid-ranks visible. The two foundation directions meet in the middle of the deck, so cards around 5 through 8 are the pivots of a run — move Aces and Kings early and be slow to bury a 6 or a 7.
  • Spend your assists deliberately. You get three hints and three reshuffles per hand, and the 20-minute clock keeps running, so use a hint when you are genuinely stuck instead of guessing and then unpicking with undo.

Refuge Solitaire is the think-it-through option on a site that mostly trades in quick reflexes. If you want a puzzle that asks you to plan ahead but moves at a gentler pace, Bloons Tower Defense 2 is a tower-defense game where placement and upgrade order decide the round. Fireboy and Watergirl is a two-player puzzle platformer built around cooperation, and Helix Jump keeps the puzzle feel while swapping patience for one fast, rhythmic descent. Each offers a different change of pace from Doodle Jump itself, but they all share the same instant, in-browser load.

Play it when you want a complete, self-contained session — a single hand runs about twenty minutes, remembers nothing between visits, and rewards careful ordering over fast fingers. It works with a mouse or a touchscreen, so it is comfortable on a laptop, a phone or a Chromebook, and it needs no download and no account.
