Karakuri — Play Free Online

Puzzle & Brain

Karakuri is a relaxing block puzzle: drag pieces onto an 8x8 board and clear groups of five matching tiles. Play free in your browser.

Karakuri takes its name from the wind-up wooden automatons of old Japan, and the game works a little like one: a small, elegant mechanism you nudge until everything clicks into place. It is a block puzzle at heart. You drag pieces from a tray onto an eight-by-eight board, and whenever five or more tiles of the same color end up touching side by side, the whole group clears in one satisfying pop.

A round moves entirely at your own pace. There is no timer and nothing falls from the sky; each turn hands you one small shape — a domino, a square, an L — and you decide exactly where it goes. The pressure comes from space, not speed. The board holds only sixty-four tiles, and every placement is a trade between clearing a group now and leaving room for the pieces still to come. On a site built around Doodle Jump, this is the slow-down-and-think corner: same short sessions, opposite heartbeat.

How to play

Hold and drag the current piece from the tray onto the board, then release to drop it. Use the mouse on desktop, or touch and drag on a phone or tablet. Groups of five or more same-color tiles that connect up, down, left or right clear automatically, and each cleared tile adds to your score. Clear more than five at once and you get a bonus. A run ends when the next piece no longer fits anywhere on the board, so the real skill is keeping a few open pockets available while you work.

Tips

  • Keep one large open area instead of letting tiles scatter everywhere. The square and L pieces need room, and an empty corner is what saves you late in a run.
  • Look one move ahead. The tray shows the shape you are placing, and the smaller preview beside it shows the next one, so place the current piece with an eye on where the next will land.
  • Spend your helper items before the board gets cramped. A row or column clear is worth far more when space is tight than when you are comfortable, so do not hoard coins.

Doodle Jump itself is this game's mirror image: constant upward motion and hair-trigger taps, where Karakuri is all about planning ahead. Bloons Tower Defense 2 is the shelf's other think-first pick, trading tiles for a careful tower layout. Bouncy Basketball sits in between, with physics and timing in quick, bouncy rounds.

Karakuri suits short, low-pressure sessions — start a run, place a few pieces, and come back later. Your best score is saved in your browser, and the coins you earn from clearing tiles can be spent on helper items and fresh tile themes, which gives a long run a gentle sense of progress. Made by Okashi Games, it runs free in the browser with nothing to install.
