Obby Tag is a free 3D multiplayer obstacle-course and tag game. Run, jump and dodge other players right in your browser, no download needed.
Obby Tag mixes two playground ideas: the obstacle course, or "obby", and a game of tag. The build is a 3D, multiplayer game, so you are not racing a clock alone. You run, jump and climb through a course while other players are doing the same thing, and somebody is always trying to catch somebody else.
It sits a little apart from the 2D climbers on Doodle Jump. There is no endless scrolling screen and no single tilting character. You move through a three-dimensional space with a camera, and platforming skill matters as much as reading what the other players are doing. If you like the pressure of Doodle Jump, where one bad jump costs you everything, a chase around a course adds a second source of that tension.
It runs in the browser with nothing to install, and a round does not need a long commitment, so it suits a quick break between longer games.
Move with the arrow keys or WASD and use the mouse to aim and to pick things on screen. On a phone or tablet, tap and swipe instead. The goal combines the two ideas in the name: get across the obstacle sections without falling, and stay out of reach of whoever is chasing, or catch others when it is your turn.
Because it is an online game, how a round feels depends on who else is in it. Give the first round to watching how other players take the jumps. The course layout is the thing to learn, since the same gaps and ledges come up again and again.
For a pure jumping challenge in 2D, Bird Jumper and Hoppenhelm keep the focus on timing without other players. Fireboy and Watergirl turns platforming into a two-character puzzle with teamwork, and Ovo 2 is a fast precision platformer where each section is a movement test. Obby Tag is the one to pick when you want other people in the course with you.
It works best on a keyboard and mouse, though touch controls are available for phones.
