Temple Run — Play Free Online

Action & Shooting

Temple Run is an endless runner where you dodge obstacles and flee pursuers down a ruined path. Play it free in your browser on Doodle Jump.

Temple Run is an endless runner built around one idea: you never stop moving. An explorer has grabbed a cursed idol and a pack of creatures is right behind, so the only direction is forward along a narrow ruined path. There is no finish line and no level select. A run lasts until you clip an obstacle, fall off an edge or let the pursuers catch up, and then you start again and try to get further.

Unlike a side-scroller, the camera sits behind the runner and the path bends. You are watching the track ahead for the next gap, root or low beam while also preparing for the next corner. That mix of reflex and anticipation is what the series is known for, and it is why a three-minute run can feel much longer.

It is a good fit for visitors to Doodle Jump who like the same "one more try" loop: a score that climbs while you survive, and a mistake that ends everything instantly. The difference is that here the danger comes toward you rather than from below.

How to play

On a keyboard, use the arrow keys or WASD to steer. The page lists mouse aim and select for menus. On a phone or tablet, tap and swipe instead. In the classic runner format, steering means turning at corners, hopping over low obstacles and sliding under high ones, with small side movements to pick up coins along the path.

The game loads in the frame once you press Play, and nothing needs to be installed. Because this is a browser build, click inside the frame first so your key presses go to the game and not the page.

Tips

  • Look a few steps ahead rather than at the runner's feet. Corners and gaps are easier to handle when you have already decided what to do.
  • Make your turns and jumps early and deliberately. Mashing keys is the quickest way to turn into a wall.
  • Do not chase every coin. A coin placed beside an obstacle is rarely worth the risk to a run that is going well.
  • If a run starts going badly, restart. The runs are short, and a calm one beats a scrappy one.

If you like the pace here, Bird Jumper and Hoppenhelm also ask you to keep moving and react to hazards, but they are platform-based and more about jump timing. Helix Jump swaps the runner for a falling ball you guide through gaps, which suits a quieter, one-handed session. Fireboy and Watergirl 4: Crystal Temple shares the temple setting but is a slower two-character puzzle game that rewards planning more than speed.

Temple Run suits short sessions on either a keyboard or a touchscreen, and there is no account or progress to manage, so you can open it, play a few runs and leave.
