Street Fighter 2 is a one-on-one fighting game. Two characters share a flat stage, each has a health bar, and the first to empty the other's bar wins the round. The name comes from Capcom's 1991 arcade classic, which set the template for almost every fighting game since. How to play

The page lists these controls: use the arrow keys or WASD to move, and the mouse to aim and select. On a phone, tap and swipe. The mouse is mainly for menus and character select. Once a fight starts, most of the action is on the keyboard.

A round goes like this. You pick a fighter, the bell sounds, and you move toward or away from your opponent while looking for an opening. Walking back guards you in classic fighters, and an attack that lands pushes the other player back. The first fighter to win the required number of rounds takes the match.

Tips

• Don't mash buttons. A missed attack leaves you open, and a patient opponent will punish it.
• Keep your distance in mind. Stay just outside the other fighter's reach, then step in when they swing and miss.
• Learn one fighter well before you try the others. Knowing exactly how far each attack reaches matters more than a long list of moves.
• Don't stay cornered. Backing against the edge of the screen gives you nowhere to retreat, so move out early.
