Fruitmates Adventure is a match-3 puzzle game with a twist on the usual formula. Instead of swapping tiles on a grid, you pick fruit tiles off a stacked board and send them to a row along the bottom. Get three identical fruits into that row and they clear. Clear the whole board and the level is won.

It was made by Yellowbird Games and appeared on Poki as their first game there. It runs in the browser with nothing to install. Doodle Jump fans will find it a calm change of pace: there is no falling, no timer pressure from the screen, and every move is a decision you can think about for as long as you like.

The art is bright and cartoonish, with oranges, strawberries, cherries and other fruit characters. As you progress you move through different locations, each with its own look.

How to play

The game is played with the mouse or a finger. Click or tap a tile to select it, and it moves into the bottom row. Pick three of the same fruit and they match and disappear. On a phone you tap; the arrow keys and WASD are not needed for the puzzles themselves.

The bottom row has limited space. If it fills with fruits that do not match, you run out of room and the level is lost, so each pick has to be chosen with what it blocks and what it uncovers in mind.

Tips

• Look at what is buried before you pick. Taking a tile that exposes the matching fruit underneath is usually better than grabbing a tile that happens to be on top.
• Do not put a lone fruit in the bottom row unless you can see where its two partners are. Singles take up the limited slots.
• Count how many of each fruit are visible. If only two of one kind are reachable, leave them until the third appears.
• Try to keep the bottom row with at most two kinds waiting at once, so that a single good pick can clear it.
