Return Portal — Play Free Online
Puzzle & BrainReturn Portal is a puzzle platformer where you place a teleporter to grab keys and reach the exit. Play it free in your browser.
Return Portal is a puzzle platformer built around a single trick: you carry a teleporter, you drop it where you stand, and you can snap back to it whenever you like. Every level is a small, minimalist room with a locked gate, a key (sometimes more than one) and a handful of obstacles that look impossible until you work out where the marker should go.
A session is calm and methodical rather than frantic. You are not racing a clock; you are working out a route, placing the portal, making a jump, and teleporting back to reset your position. Levels are short, so a few minutes is enough to clear one or two, which makes it a good fit for a break between longer games.
If you came to this site for the one-more-try rhythm of Doodle Jump, this plays at a slower tempo. The challenge is spatial thinking and precise jumps rather than reflexes, but the same urge to retry a failed attempt applies.
How to play
The controls are keyboard-based, with touch support on phones and tablets:
- Move left and right with the arrow keys or A and D.
- Jump with the up arrow or W.
- Place the teleporter, and teleport back to it, with Spacebar or X.
- On a phone, tap and swipe on the screen.
A typical level goes like this: spot the key and the exit, decide where a marker would let you cross a gap or escape a hazard, drop it, make the jump, then teleport back to the marker to get out of trouble. Collect every key to open the gate, then walk through it to finish the level.
Tips
- Look at the whole room before moving. Most levels have one intended placement, and spotting it early saves a lot of trial and error.
- Place the teleporter before a risky jump, not after. If you fall short, the return gives you a free retry.
- Remember that the marker can be moved: if a placement does not work, drop a new one rather than forcing the same jump.
- Use a keyboard if you can. Precise jumping is easier with keys than with touch.

If you like this one, try Fireboy and Watergirl, which also asks you to think through a room and reach an exit, with two characters to coordinate. Ovo 2 is a faster platformer that tests jumping and wall movement. Bird Jumper leans on timing rather than planning.
Return Portal runs in the browser with nothing to install, and it suits solo play in short sittings.
