Magic Battleground is an action and shooting game that you play from a top-down point of view with the keyboard and mouse together. One hand moves your character, the other aims and fires, so a round is mostly about staying mobile while keeping your attention on whatever is closest to you.

It opens straight in the page with nothing to install, which suits the way most people use Doodle Jump: a few minutes between other things. If you came for the one-more-try feel of Doodle Jump, the appeal here is similar even though the genre is different. Mistakes are obvious, restarts are quick, and you can see yourself improving from one attempt to the next.

How to play

Tips

• Keep moving. In shooters that pair a movement key with mouse aim, standing still to line up a shot is the usual way to lose health.
• Pick WASD or the arrow keys and stay with it. Switching mid-round costs you a second you will not get back.
• Play your first round slowly. Learn what the on-screen options do before you start chasing a high result.
• On a laptop, use a mouse if you have one. Aiming with a trackpad is noticeably less precise.
