Icy Purple Head 2 — Play Free Online

Icy Purple Head 2 is a puzzle game that sits in the Puzzle & Brain corner of Doodle Jump's catalogue. It is listed as a Poki title, and it runs straight in the browser with nothing to install. Where Doodle Jump is about reflexes and endless climbing, this one asks you to slow down and think about each move before you make it.

A typical session is a series of short stages rather than one long run. You move your character with the keyboard, use the mouse for aiming and selecting where the game asks for it, and work toward clearing the stage in front of you. That structure suits a few spare minutes: you can stop after any stage and pick up again later without having lost a long streak.

For a fan of a simple one-more-try arcade game, it is a change of pace. The challenge comes from planning and trial and error, not from speed.

How to play

On a computer, move with the arrow keys or WASD. The mouse handles aiming and selecting, so keep a hand on it as well as the keyboard. On a phone or tablet, tap and swipe instead.

The first stages work as a tutorial. Spend them finding out what each control does and how your character responds, because later stages build on exactly those basics. If a stage goes wrong, restarting it is usually quicker than trying to rescue a bad position.

Tips

1. Look over the whole stage before the first move. Puzzle mistakes tend to come from rushing, not from slow hands.
2. When you get stuck, try something different instead of repeating the same attempt. A fresh approach often shows what you missed.
3. On a laptop, a mouse is more comfortable than a trackpad for aiming and selecting.
4. Use the fullscreen button under the game if the stage is hard to read at normal size.

If you want something with more of a thinking element, Fireboy and Watergirl and its Crystal Temple follow-up are co-operative puzzle platformers where you steer two characters through tricky rooms. Ovo 2 and OvO game are fast precision platformers that reward quick reactions more than planning. Bloons Tower Defense 2 is another thoughtful pick, built around placing towers well instead of moving a character.

Icy Purple Head 2 suits short sessions, players who enjoy puzzles, and anyone on either a keyboard or a touch screen.
