Fireboy And Watergirl 5 is a co-operative puzzle platformer built around two characters who cannot survive the same hazards. Fireboy walks through fire and Watergirl swims through water, and every room is a small logistics problem: get both of them to their exit doors, collecting gems along the way. It is a slow, thinking kind of game rather than a reflex test, and a single room can take a minute or ten.

The series is by Oslo Albet, and this fifth entry keeps the formula the earlier temples made familiar. Visitors to Doodle Jump who like the vertical, precise jumping of the headline game will find the same satisfaction here, only with planning layered on top of the timing. How to play

Move with the arrow keys or WASD, and use the mouse where a menu or on-screen element needs selecting. On a phone, tap and swipe. In the series, two players traditionally share one keyboard, one on the arrows and one on WASD; alone, you switch your attention between both characters and move them in turn.

Each character is hurt by the opposite element. Fireboy dies in water, Watergirl dies in fire, and green goo is deadly to both. Pools of their own colour are safe and are usually where their gems sit. Buttons, levers and moving platforms open routes for the other character, so the typical room asks one of them to hold something down while the other crosses.

Tips

• Look over the whole room before moving. Work out which hazard blocks which character, then decide who goes first.
• Whoever stands on a button usually has to stay there. Send the partner through, then swap roles if the next gate needs it.
• Gems are optional for finishing but tend to sit in risky spots. Grab the safe ones on the way, and return for the awkward ones once both exits are reachable.
• If you are stuck, restart the room. A fresh start is often faster than untangling a bad position.
