Big Tall Small is a puzzle platformer where you never control just one character. Three heroes of different sizes share every level, and all of them have to reach the exit. You swap between them on the fly, so a typical level is a small logic problem: who goes first, who gets out of the way, and who ends up carrying the team through the hard part.

It was made by Robert Alvarez and plays entirely in the browser, with nothing to install. Sessions are naturally short, because each level is a self-contained room. If you come to Doodle Jump for quick, one-more-try games, this is the calmer, think-first end of the catalogue. There is no clock to beat, only the puzzle.

The idea that carries the game is that size is a tool. A small hero can slip through gaps that the others cannot fit through. A bigger hero can push blocks around. The tall one reaches things the others cannot. Puzzles are built so that no single hero can finish alone, which is why the exit only counts when the whole group gets there.

How to play

Move with WASD or the arrow keys. Switch to the next hero with Down, Space or Enter. Press R to reset the level if you have boxed yourself in, and Esc or B to go back. On a phone the game uses touch controls instead of the keyboard.

A round is mostly looking and then acting. Start by scanning the room for the exit and for anything that blocks the way, such as a block in a doorway or a ledge that is out of reach. Then work out which hero solves each obstacle and in what order. Because all three must end up at the exit, a hero who is parked in a bad spot can trap the others, and that is when the reset key earns its place.

Tips

  • Before you move anyone, check where each hero will finish. Many failed attempts come from solving the first obstacle in a way that blocks the second.
  • Cycle through the heroes at the start of a level to see how each one is placed. You often learn the intended route just by looking.
  • Do not be afraid of R. Resetting is quicker than trying to rescue a stuck position.
  • If you are stuck, ask what a block could do for a hero who cannot do it alone. Pushing a block into place often opens a route for another character.

Fireboy and Watergirl is the closest relative on this site. It is also about two characters with different strengths reaching one exit, but it has you control both at once, which suits two players on one keyboard. Fireboy and Watergirl 4: Crystal Temple continues that style with new level designs. Doodle Jump itself is the opposite experience: reflexes and an endless climb, with no puzzle to plan.

Big Tall Small suits players who like to pause and think, and it works well with a friend looking over your shoulder and suggesting which hero to send next.
