IZOWAVE - Build and Defend is a build-and-defend game rather than a runner or a jumper. You control a lone character on a small map and hold off waves of enemies that keep coming. Between and during the waves you place defensive structures, so the game is part top-down shooter and part tower defense. It runs in the browser with nothing to install.

It fits a site built around Doodle Jump because the pace is the same: a short, repeatable run where you try to last longer than last time. The difference is that you are planning a defense instead of timing your jumps.

How to play

Move with the arrow keys or WASD and aim with the mouse. The mouse also selects things in the build menu. On a phone or tablet you tap and swipe instead.

A round starts with a little time to set up. Waves then arrive and push toward you and your buildings. You fight them yourself and lean on the structures you have placed. You spend resources on new buildings and upgrades, and each wave asks for more than the last, so your defense has to grow with it.

Tips

Spend early resources on your economy and a few solid defenses, not on one expensive item.
Keep moving while you shoot. Standing still in front of a group of enemies is the quickest way to lose.
Build around the spot where enemies approach, so your structures cover each other and you can fall back behind them.
Check the build menu between waves, when you are not under pressure.

Bloons Tower Defense 2 is the closest relative here. It is a pure tower defense where you only place towers, while IZOWAVE has you fighting in person as well. It suits players who like planning as much as reacting, and it works in sessions of a few minutes or a longer sitting. A mouse and keyboard give the best aim, though touch controls are supported.
