Bomba is a mouse-guided maze puzzler from Nitrome, the studio behind a long run of beloved browser arcade games. It looks tiny — a round character on a tidy grid — but every level turns into a tense little exercise in route-planning and split-second dodges. You steer by moving your cursor, and the character follows it like a shadow, which makes the whole thing feel far more immediate than keyboard controls ever manage.

Each level drops you onto a single screen of walls, moving hazards and a handful of stars. The job is to sweep across the screen and touch every star without brushing a wall or anything that is patrolling. Once you have learned the rhythm of the level, you head to a bomb dispenser, pick up a bomb, and carry it to the enemies and moss clumps you need to clear. That two-phase loop — collect, then clear — is what gives Bomba its hook, and it is why one more level keeps turning into five.

It is a different challenge from Doodle Jump's vertical climbs, but it scratches the same itch: short, clean, instantly readable levels where you fail by a hair and immediately want another attempt.

How to play

Move your mouse to guide the character; it follows the cursor, so there are no arrow keys to learn. Click or tap to select and activate the character, and when you are carrying a bomb, click again to drop it. On a touchscreen, drag with a finger instead of a mouse.

A level usually goes like this: read the layout, collect every star while keeping clear of walls and moving objects, then grab a bomb from its dispenser and place it where it will take out the enemies or moss in your way. Bombs only clear what is near them, so where you drop one matters as much as when.

Tips

  • Watch a moving hazard run a full lap before you commit. The enemies patrol on fixed loops, and timing your pass is safer than rushing it.
  • Plan a star-collecting route that ends near the bomb dispenser, so you are not crossing the whole screen twice.
  • Drop a bomb just ahead of an enemy's patrol path rather than on top of it, and give yourself room to step away before it goes off.

If the careful, one-slip-and-you-restart dodging is what draws you in, OvO is the closest cousin here — a precision platformer where timing is everything. Fireboy and Watergirl turns the puzzle side of Bomba into a two-player teamwork challenge, and Bouncy Basketball is a lighter, physics-driven change of pace between Bomba's trickier levels.

Bomba suits short sessions, since each level is self-contained and there is no story to keep track of. It plays fine on a touchscreen, though a mouse gives the most precise control for the narrowest gaps.
