Open 100 Doors — Play Free Online

Arcade & Skill

Open 100 Doors is a point-and-click escape puzzle: find the trick behind each door and open it. Play it free in your browser.

Open 100 Doors is a point-and-click puzzle game in the escape-room tradition. Each level puts you in front of a door, and the job is to work out how to get it open. Nothing is spelled out: you look at what is on screen, poke at it, and see what responds.

It is a very different pace from the jumpers and runners that fill most of this site. Doodle Jump asks for constant reflexes; here nothing chases you and there is no timer pushing you along. A session is a string of small "aha" moments, which makes it a good change of pace between rounds of something faster.

How to play

The game is driven mostly by the mouse: click an object to interact with it. On a phone or tablet, tap instead. The page lists arrow keys or WASD for movement and a mouse for aiming and selecting, but the core of the game is clicking things on screen, so start there.

Each door hides its own trick. The levels are built around odd, sometimes silly puzzles rather than one repeating mechanic, so a method that worked on door twelve may be no use on door thirteen. When you open one, the next appears and you start over with a fresh puzzle.

Tips

  1. Click everything, including the door itself, the background and anything that looks decorative. In games like this, the useful object is often the one that looks like scenery.
  2. If a level feels impossible, try the obvious actions in a different order, or repeat one several times, before assuming you are missing an item.
  3. Do not overthink early levels. They are meant to teach you that the solutions can be unconventional.
  4. Take a short break if you are stuck. Coming back to the same screen after a few minutes often makes the answer obvious.

If you want something that tests reaction rather than thinking, try Helix Jump or Bird Jumper. For a puzzle-platformer with a bit more logic, Fireboy and Watergirl adds co-operation between two characters, and Ovo 2 mixes puzzle-like level design with precise movement. Open 100 Doors is closer to a quiet brain-teaser than any of them.

It runs in the browser with nothing to install, so it suits short breaks on a laptop, Chromebook or phone.
